ECONOMÍA DE LA COMPETENCIA (Grupo 12)
Segundo Semestre
The course focuses on the study of the different ways in which companies compete strategically when the assumptions of perfect competition are not observed, as well as the harmful consequences that the lack of competence has on well-being and that justify intervention by the authorities through competition and regulatory policies.
In particular, issues related to the basic conditions of demand and supply of goods and services, market structure, strategic and political behaviour of competition and regulation are analysed. This includes oligopolistic behaviour, collusion and cartels, horizontal and vertical integration, product differentiation, price discrimination, asymmetric information, entry and exit barriers, and endogenous and exogenous sunk costs and how competition policy is articulated in order to maximize consumer (or social) surplus.
